LORDI Gets Its Own Payment Card In Finland

September 14, 2006

A payment card featuring a photo of LORDI, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, is now available from Sampo Bank. The LORDI version of Sampo Bank's international payment cards, Visa Electron, Visa and MasterCard, can be ordered from September 15. The LORDI card will supplement Sampo Bank's range of payment card images, which includes NIGHTWISH, artist Kaj Stenvall's duck painting, and Marimekko's poppy design.

"Sampo Bank's payment cards feature figures and persons that have attained a special place in the hearts of Finnish people, says Kauko Lampsijärvi, manager of Sampo Bank's Rovaniemi branch, who presented LORDI with its own card. "LORDI's Eurovision win has made the band a legend: Sampo Bank wants to reward the band's hard work with the LORDI card."

"It's certainly an honor to be among Finnish icons like Uuno Turhapuro and NIGHTWISH, and especially to follow in the footsteps of KISS. A KISS Visa card was available in the USA around 10 years ago, which was unheard of for rock bands at that time," says LORDI mainman Mr. Lordi.

On Saturday, September 16, LORDI will begin a European tour covering nearly 30 cities. The band spent the whole of last summer on a combined promotional tour in Europe and concert tour in Finland. In Germany, the group's smash hit single "Hard Rock Hallelujah" went gold with over 150,000 copies, and the band also had a gold album in Sweden with "The Arockalypse", selling more than 30,000 copies. In Finland, more than 70,000 copies of "The Arockalypse" have already been sold, making it a double platinum record. It is also currently Finland's best-selling album this year.
